About The Position

Join a growing team at UTHealth Houston, which is opening the Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center/HCPC, the largest academic psychiatric hospital in the country with over 500 beds. This facility will serve the region with a variety of mental health specialties and cutting-edge research, including Acute, Subacute, and Intensive Outpatient, Continuum of Care, Mood Disorders, ECT, Early Onset Treatment, Adult General Psychiatry, Competency Restoration, Child and Adolescent, Juvenile Justice, Geriatric Psychiatry, Treatment Mall, and Unit-Based Programming. This dedicated team will work in an integrated campus to bring world-class resources to the community. We are seeking a PRN Pharmacist with availability for weekend shifts, though weekday or weeknight availability is also accepted. A shift differential is provided for both nights and weekends. The preferred commitment is 2 to 4 shifts per month. UTHealth Houston is Texas’ resource for healthcare education, innovation, scientific discovery, and excellence in patient care.

Requirements

  • Registered Pharmacist (RPh) by Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) required
  • Bachelor's Degree of Science or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy required
  • 1 year experience as a pharmacist required
  • Experience using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and pharmacy information systems required
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to effectively participate on an interdisciplinary team or committee.
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services.
  • Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology.
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

  • Clinical pharmacy experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, interprets, compounds, and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to written orders/prescriptions issued by an authorized prescriber.
  • Evaluates and clarifies medication orders or prescriptions with prescribers.
  • Identifies, strives to prevent, assesses, and resolves medication related problems to ensure a safe patient outcome.
  • Promotes safe, efficacious, and cost-effective medication therapy by participating in the provision and documentation of clinical pharmacy services and execution of medication utilization initiatives (e.g., IV to PO conversion program, renal dosing).
  • Maintains professional competencies to meet current and future needs of the patients and customers.
  • Oversees technicians in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all patient care provided meets or exceeds all regulations, statutes, and JCAHO standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
