About The Position

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for providing quality pharmaceutical care/services to patients and health care professionals at any ARH or affiliated unit as assigned. Responsible for properly assessing patients’ pharmaceutical needs and providing pharmaceutical care. Responsible for the accurate and proper compounding and dispensing of prescribed medications and solutions. Responsible for the proper inventory and record keeping of medications. Responsible for properly counseling patients/patients’ families, and appropriate health care professionals regarding drug therapy. This is a part-time position, with responsibilities split between inpatient duties and the oncology infusion suite.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy, Pharm.D., or other advanced degree.
  • Licensure eligibility in state of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and performs functions involved in the drug distribution process, including order entry, interpretation, screening for ADRs, checking technician work, filling medication orders, compounding non-sterile products, counseling patients, and billing.
  • Supervises and performs functions involved with the IV Admixture program, including preparation and labeling of IV admixtures, screening for compatibility, using aseptic technique, safe chemotherapy preparation, checking technician work, filling IV orders, and maintaining the IV Room.
  • Makes appropriate interventions to improve patient care through effective communication, including physician consults, initiating interactions with physicians regarding drug therapy, documenting clinical interventions, assisting in policy development, formulating care plans, responding to codes, providing drug information, and offering educational services.
  • Demonstrates necessary skills and proficiency to operate Pharmacy computers and electronic and mechanical equipment, including printing lists and labels, operating and maintaining equipment, maintaining laminar flow hoods, and managing departmental files.
  • Maintains appropriate record keeping and levels of medication and supply inventory, including proper distribution and documentation of controlled substances, ordering medications and supplies, and maintaining proper storage and distribution of floor stock and emergency drugs.
  • Possesses the ability to assess and/or care for age groups of patients within their scope of practice.
  • Serves on hospital committees as assigned.
