University Settlement partners with over 40,000 New Yorkers annually to foster healthy, stable, and remarkable lives by combating poverty and systemic inequality. Founded in 1886, it is the first Settlement House in the United States, continuing its mission to meet New Yorkers where they live, listen to diverse perspectives, and foster cooperation. The organization builds community strength by providing stable foundations for growth and dreams across all ages. Its programs emphasize civic engagement, equality, and communal action, including early childhood education, youth development, healthy aging, mental health and wellness, English classes for immigrants, community centers, and the arts. The Families Thriving program offers comprehensive family support, empowering families to overcome barriers and achieve greater success and peace. This program operates with an antiracist and strengths-based approach, believing families are the experts in their own lives. It focuses on holistic, family/community-driven methods, fostering connection and empathy, and dismantling inequities. Through a continuum of services, Families Thriving collaborates with children, families, and community partners to develop strengths-based, family-driven interventions that support independence and lead to success at home, school, and in the community. The program provides mental health services, the Positive Parenting Program (Triple P), psychoeducation, assessments, and supportive services for families with children aged 0-21 in Manhattan and Brooklyn. It also offers professional development trainings, Connection Circles, workshops, and consultations in partnership with schools and organizations. This specific role is crucial for expanding mental health support and access for youth and families within the Families Thriving program, with community-based positions available in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
