About The Position

The University of California, San Francisco Department of Psychiatry is seeking innovative clinicians to join the Outpatient Behavioral Health and Psychiatry Clinic. This large, multi-disciplinary clinic, primarily located at the Pritzker Building of UCSF, serves as the main outpatient training site for UCSF psychiatry residents. Additional sites include Integrated Behavioral Health practices within Primary Care and Specialty clinics. Medical students also participate in some clinic components as part of their core clinical training in psychiatry. Trainees, faculty, and staff providers evaluate new patients across various specialty clinics and faculty practices focusing on different patient populations, including diagnosis-based (e.g., depression, anxiety, bipolar) and population-based (e.g., women, geriatrics, and LGBT) clinics. Following initial evaluation, clinicians develop comprehensive individualized treatment plans that may include medication management and/or psychotherapy. This position involves providing primarily time-limited individual psychotherapy to a diverse patient panel and running treatment groups. The clinician will build and maintain their psychotherapy panel by collaborating with administrative staff on incoming referrals. The work environment fosters collaborative interaction with other practitioners within Psychiatry. Improving communication and patient service are integral to everyone's role in the Department. Participation in Continuous Quality Improvement and strict adherence to privacy policies and clinic procedures are expected. UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) to practice and function in their clinical role at all UCSF Medical Center sites. Credentialing and approval of Standardized Procedures take 60-90 days and must be completed before the first working day.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited university
  • Licensed in the State of California (LCSW)
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience
  • Meets requirements for UCSF Medical Staff membership
  • Demonstrated ability to provide time limited therapy (e.g. CBT, DBT, TLDP, IPT, etc.) for anxiety and mood disorders
  • Demonstrated ability to provide supportive psychotherapy
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately triage and manage mental health emergencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under supervision, seek and receive feedback, and maintain interest in continuing professional development
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and humility
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skill with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy and ability to interact with members from various levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated record of excellent reliability in attendance and punctuality

Responsibilities

  • Performs time-limited individual psychotherapy and facilitates treatment groups as required using an evidence-based model for psychiatric outpatients plus a limited amount of longer-term supportive therapy (completing 32 encounters [typically 45-60 min therapy] per week).
  • Obtain and maintain a wRVU target that is in alignment with organizational True North goals.
  • Works closely with psychiatrists (both trainees and faculty) in providing collaborative care to shared patients.
  • Works closely with other providers to coordinate care and provide necessary resources and support to patients.
  • Provides referrals to other providers as needed.
  • Facilitates support groups as required.
  • Consistently maintains established productivity standards.
  • Cooperates with practice staff, including schedulers, front desk personnel, and practice/nurse managers, and clinical supervisors to assure smooth delivery of patient care services.
  • Completes timely and accurate coding of encounters.
  • Responds to requests from business office staff regarding questions or denied claims.
  • Complies with all UCSF Medical Center procedures for infection control, safety, and administrative and clinical practice.
  • Complies with activities mandated by The Joint Commission and CA Title 22 and all applicable state/federal regulations.
  • Complies with all UCSF Medical Center policies regarding the maintenance and confidentiality of medical records and other patient information.
  • May be assigned to provide psychotherapy services in other Outpatient Behavioral Health and Psychiatry clinics or programs at the discretion of management.
  • Administrative tasks related to direct clinical service, including, but not limited to: completing clinical documentation in APeX and according to HIMS standards for completion, communication to care teams, identification of referral resources, authorization forms for payors.
  • Contribute in Lean Management system activities to include but not limited to: attending daily huddles, training and improvement initiatives, and monthly true north board rounds.
