About The Position

The Student Counseling (SC) department, part of Campus and Student Life, provides mental health care to eligible students and their dependents. Services include diagnostic assessments, crisis intervention, psychotherapy, medication management, academic skills counseling, and referrals. SC staff also consults with University faculty, staff, and administrators, and conducts outreach to the campus community. The department utilizes a multidisciplinary team, supports a psychology training program, and serves as a training site for psychiatry residents. The successful candidate will be a licensed clinical social worker with experience in clinical practice, outreach, and training, providing mental health programs and services to UChicago students. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting student mental health, dedicated to cultural awareness, and committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive campus environment. This is a full-time, 12-month salaried position.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

  • Licensed or license eligible as a Clinical Social Worker in Illinois.

  • Facilitating presentations on mental health topics for a university student population.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group psychotherapy to University students.
  • Offers outreach and workshops to enhance access and meet diverse student needs.
  • Conducts clinical diagnostic evaluation and assessment of students, including urgent-care/crisis evaluations.
  • Provides goal-focused, evidence-based, time-limited individual, couples, and group psychotherapy.
  • Delivers emergency and crisis intervention services, including scheduled daytime on-call coverage.
  • Maintains timely and complete electronic documentation.
  • Exercises discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive situations.
  • Reviews, analyzes, interprets, and/or adheres to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, Code of Ethics, policies, and procedures as related to clinical social workers.
  • Provides consultation, training, and outreach to members of the University of Chicago student community both during and after hours.
  • Participates in clinical and administrative staff meetings.
  • Provides clinical supervision of trainees as needed and appropriate.
  • Analyzes effectiveness of counseling or treatments and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, modifying plans or diagnoses as necessary.
  • Interprets, monitors, and records client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment and care plan.
  • Plans own resources to combat social problems, prevent substance abuse, or improve community health and counseling services.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
