About The Position

The Children's Law Center (CLC) is a non-profit legal services organization that represents children in custody, visitation, guardianship, paternity, family offense, and related child protective (abuse or neglect) proceedings in the Family Courts and the Integrated Domestic Violence Parts of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, and in appeals therefrom. CLC represents approximately 5,000 children annually in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, providing holistic and zealous representation and support in the Court, the community and the legislature. CLC's mission is to empower our clients, prevent trauma and promote wellbeing. CLC seeks a clinical social worker or psychotherapist who can support our clients’ therapeutic needs. This person will report to the Director, Clinical Practice.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children and/or teens;
  • Experience working with Family and Criminal justice systems;
  • Superb interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, time management, and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise complete discretion when working with confidential and sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language ability a plus.
  • TF-CBT- trained a plus.
  • Desire to work in a busy organization that represents children.

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive, trauma-informed psychotherapy and case management to children ages 3-17, including crisis intervention, short-term, and long-term treatment. Treatment modalities include the evidence-based psychological trauma interventions, EMDR and TF-CBT;
  • Conducting clinical assessments and appropriate referrals to community-based organizations for treatment;
  • Providing emotional and preparatory support for children and adolescents who may be testifying in family and/or criminal court, or before the grand jury;
  • Maintaining appropriate client information in electronic databases and paper files;
  • Attend relevant task force meetings and conferences, and maintain collaborative relationships with local crime victim, mental health, and criminal justice agencies;
  • Supporting grant applications with program statistics and referral/client demographics; and
  • Providing ongoing consultation and collaboration with CLC attorneys and social workers while maintaining client confidentiality.
