The Lead Clinical Social Worker (Lead CSW) maintains active licensure as a Clinical Social Worker through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and provides medical social work services, including psychosocial assessments, supportive counseling, therapeutic interventions, patient and caregiver education, and community resource support. This role includes clinical supervision of MSWs, BSW/MSW students, and support group facilitation, while also mentoring social work staff in collaboration with management. The Lead CSW participates in multidisciplinary program development, crisis response, treatment planning, performance improvement initiatives, and on-call rotation responsibilities. Additional duties include leadership in education, policy development, research, and program enhancement. The Lead CSW also oversees daily workflow and staff assignments to ensure patient care needs are met, supports employee engagement initiatives, and assists with recruitment and onboarding. This position serves as a mentor and role model, promoting effective teamwork and demonstrating strong leadership within the division.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an approved California Accredited School of Social Work
  • Five years medical social work experience
  • Two or more years post licensure experience
  • Registration as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences

Responsibilities

  • Addresses daily issues relating to division/team workflow, including assignment of personnel work duties, as directed by the Director of Clinical Social Work team.
  • Assists the Director with recruitment, interviewing and orientation of new staff.
  • Promotes effective team processes by aiding the team to make group decisions, enhances team communication, and collaborates with team members to ensure coverage, ensure team recognition, leads routine meetings and program planning development.
  • Provides timely, appropriate, reliable, and respectful social work services to patients and families.
  • Demonstrates proficient team-building skills, effectively negotiate and willing to compromise as needed, to resolve issues and respectfully reach a consensus.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and serves on institutional committees as appointed.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills and professionalism, serving as a role model within the Department, City of Hope and as a representative of City of Hope in the larger community; effectively works with community agencies and professional organizations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
