About The Position

The Clinical Skills and Simulation Operations Specialist (CSSOS) supports the planning, setup, implementation, and delivery of clinical skills labs and simulation activities at the assigned campus location. This role applies simulation and instructional technologies - including computers, audio-visual (AV) systems, networking, clinical task trainers, mid- and high-fidelity manikins, and virtual and shared virtual reality platforms - to ensure effective learning experiences. The specialist maintains a safe, organized, and efficient simulation environment by managing equipment and inventory, adhering to safety and infection control protocols, and supporting faculty and facilitators during simulation sessions. Responsibilities include preparing and breaking down simulation activities, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring operational readiness of all equipment and supplies. This role also requires accountability for operational efficiency, protection of student privacy, and effective use of time and resources in lab and simulation settings.

Requirements

  • Exceptional diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of IP networking, and related network services
  • Effective professional communication skills (written, verbal, and electronic)
  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment
  • Working knowledge of simulation products such as Laderal, Gaumard, and CAE
  • Physical ability to lift, move, and set up equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology and/or related field.
  • Previous professional experience in healthcare, academic institution or related discipline preferred.
  • IT support experience preferred
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Customer service experience and excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Extensive experience with hardware/software platforms required including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist® (CHSOS®) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, set up, and break down clinical skills labs and simulation activities, including equipment, supplies, and technology
  • Operate simulation equipment, including manikins, AV systems, and related technologies during activities
  • Provide real-time technical support to faculty, staff, and students during simulation sessions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues; install and update applications and simulation software
  • Maintain and service simulation equipment, including computers, manikins, AV systems, and emerging technologies (e.g., VR platforms)
  • Facilitate simulation scenarios and operate manikins in support of academic programs
  • Train faculty and staff on the use and operation of simulation technologies and equipment
  • Maintain logs of equipment maintenance, updates, and repairs
  • Manage inventory of simulation supplies and equipment, including: Conducting regular inventory counts of durable and disposable items, Monitoring and tracking inventory levels, Preparing and submitting purchase requests for low-stock items, Receiving, inspecting, and documenting deliveries, Organizing and maintaining clean, safe storage areas, Investigating and resolving inventory discrepancies, Preparing reports on inventory usage and trends
  • Serve as a resource for simulation technology and IT-related inquiries
  • Communicate effectively with the Director of Simulation, campus simulation staff, IT support, external vendors and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate with simulation leadership and staff across campuses to ensure consistency and best practices
  • Maintain current knowledge of simulation technologies, equipment updates, and industry best practices
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including sharps precautions and proper equipment handling and cleanup
  • Interact professionally with faculty, staff, students, and visitors in alignment with institutional values
  • Perform other duties as assigned
