About The Position

The Clinical Simulation Specialist II serves as a technical expert responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of simulation equipment, hospital-type equipment used in clinical activities, and AV/IT equipment used in simulation activities. This role also involves instructing and assisting simulation faculty and learners in the use of technical equipment. The specialist will perform operational duties such as staff and maintenance scheduling, lab utilization scheduling, and inventory/purchasing. Familiarity with various simulation education modalities and educational principles is expected, enabling assistance in the development, setup, delivery, and takedown of simulation education sessions. This is a campus-based position requiring a 5-day per week presence on the San Marcos campus.

Requirements

  • Proficient with hardware such as PC and Mac computers, video cameras and microphones.

  • Understand and abide by proper lab procedures that are essential to the safety of students and faculty.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences or related field.
  • 3-5 years of simulation, leadership, or related educational technology experience.
  • Experience in IT support environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows.
  • Experience with audio/visual systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from the NLN SIRC, Society for Simulation in Healthcare or the Certified Modeling & Simulation Professional program preferred, but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain simulation equipment, task trainers, computerized simulators, and virtual reality procedural trainers with the ability to follow scenarios and make appropriate adjustments to technology systems.
  • Operate and maintain simulation-related audio-video recording systems.
  • Make recommendations for the purchase of CapEx equipment, supplies, and materials required for simulation-based sessions.
  • Complete ordering process of daily simulation operation equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Create troubleshooting documents, simulator checklists, and preventative maintenance plans for simulation equipment.
  • Set up and operate equipment/AV system in rooms including equipment, supplies, moulage, etc. for simulation activities.
  • Schedule and assist in training standardized patients.
  • Hire, schedule, and assist in training student workers.
  • Communicate with faculty, campus leadership, and other campus constituents regarding CICP events.
  • Organize and maintain simulation schedules and meet with faculty regarding scheduling concerns and confirmations, based on the availability of physical and technical resources.
  • Build and maintain simulation developed cases in EMS.
  • Develop and execute simulation learning activities as supplemental to curriculum offered events.
  • Maintain accurate calendar records in EMS, AdAstra, and campus CICP calendars.
  • May be involved with the educational aspects of scenarios including debriefing/feedback.
  • Support learners to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Supervise CICP simulation technology specialist for day-to-day operations.
