The employee is expected to support Saddleback Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in performance improvement/patient safety activities. Utilizing the nursing process and clinical nursing practice standards, the RN Clinical II is responsible for directing, delivering, and coordinating nursing care for patients in the Oncology and General Surgery Unit (Acute Care Service) in accordance with Nursing Department policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include directing unlicensed employee activity, synthesizing patient information, assessing patients, planning care/interventions, teaching patients/family, implementing treatment plans/MD orders, and evaluating care. The RN Clinical II must effectively communicate and document patient care data, incorporating knowledge of patient age, cultural diversity, and psychosocial and/or spiritual needs into the care plan. This role also contributes to quality nursing care through performance improvement processes and collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and positive patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Record System such as EPIC.
  • Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Card (BLS) required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for employees hired after January 1, 2023.
  • Successful completion of department-provided EKG training within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of acute care experience in Oncology, General Surgery, Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, or Cardiac-related nursing highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) highly preferred.
  • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy or OCN certification highly preferred.
  • NIHSS Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meets population specific competencies utilizing the nursing process.
  • Documentation is complete, accurate, timely, and reflects the patient’s plan of care.
  • Provides leadership and clear direction to all members of the healthcare team to support the plan of care while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the management of patient care.
  • Provides for the psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients, families, and significant others.
  • Demonstrates continued development of clinical expertise and current knowledge of healthcare trends and education related nursing practice.
  • Participates in processes that improve standards of care and practice in the delivery of nursing service.
  • Supports sustainment of the Magnet culture.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
