About The Position

The Clinical Risk Manager participates in pro-active risk assessments; plans, organizes and implements clinical risk management strategies for the UF Health Shands Clinical Risk Management (CRM) Program, with the objective of preventing adverse events for patients and minimizing loss to the organization. This role involves investigating patient safety events to determine severity and potential reportability per regulatory/accreditation risk management standards, conducting root cause analyses and sharing lessons learned. The manager will also coordinate and/or conduct clinical risk management educational offerings, collaborate with Self Insurance Program (SIP) Claims, and ensure the implementation of recommendations identified through event management or Performance Improvement initiatives. Additionally, the role includes conducting daily review and analysis of patient safety reports, addressing identified trends, and developing risk-reduction strategies based on claims data, while initiating or participating in the clinical quality and safety activities of the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in a clinical or healthcare related field
  • Minimum two years experience in healthcare risk management and/or activities in an acute care setting related to patient safety, process improvement, or healthcare quality initiatives required
  • Demonstrate knowledge and prior application of data analysis skills
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, including experience in facilitation, communication and presentation to executive level audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Computer skills include proficiency in the use of email applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Application of strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Consideration will be given to those with an Associate Degree in an acute care based clinical discipline along with a minimum of four years experience in healthcare risk management and/or activities related to patient safety, process improvement, or healthcare quality initiatives required

Nice To Haves

  • Academic medical center and inpatient hospitalization experience preferred
  • Knowledge of applicable standards of health care risk management and hospital-wide regulatory experience
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local health and safety laws/rules
