About The Position

Under the direction and immediate supervision of the Family Counseling Center Director, the Clinical Responder delivers clinical, case management, and crisis services to persons who have been referred by local police departments. The Clinical Responder creates a positive, therapeutic environment that supports persons served in achieving their stated goals. The Clinical Responder is a member of the Mobile Crisis Response Unit (MCRU).

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the techniques and principles of child and family development, family systems theory, individual, family, behavioral therapy (ACT, DBT), and crisis-focused interventions.
  • Considerable knowledge of community resources throughout Cook, Will, and DuPage counties.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and counseling skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the OPPD and local providers.
  • Ability to diagnosis under supervision using the DSM-IV TR and DSM 5.
  • Strong interest in treating people with chronic mental illness.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse treatment and presentation.
  • Comfort with testifying in court and working with the legal system.
  • Comfort with completing petitions for involuntary hospitalization.
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree mandatory.
  • Completion of QBS safety care training, CPR, and First aid (upon hire).
  • Experience working with people who have the diagnosis of a mental illness and/or substance abuse problems.
  • Able to collaborate with team and promote good staff relationships and morale.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Master’s Degree in the field of psychology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing therapeutic services to people referred to the program.
  • Assisting the Program Manager with partnership, community outreach, case management, data collection, benefit verification, billing, identification of referrals, follow-up, and outcome achievement.
  • Ensuring that data is objectively collected.
  • Facilitating individual therapy sessions and/or family therapy sessions.
  • Administering screening and assessment tools.
  • Developing treatment plans for individuals/ families engaged in treatment.
  • Participating in regular multidisciplinary team meetings and quarterly task force meetings with OPPD.
  • Making appropriate referrals for individuals and families' psychological and psychosocial needs and following up to identify if services were accessed.
  • Assisting with service records, database, and statistics.
  • Participating in biweekly supervision with the Program Manager.
  • Working closely with first responders and other community entities (such as Silver Cross and Palos Hospitals).
  • Participating in Roll Call Trainings and Ride Along's.
  • Responding and delivering services within 24-48 hours of referral.
  • Responding to on-call emergency consultation face-to-face in a timely manner.
  • Collaborating with other Clinical Responders and participating in weekly team meetings.
  • Assisting with completing intakes, verifying insurance, and managing billing.
  • Assisting with monitoring programmatic goals and outcomes, continually adapting to meet or exceed them.
  • Attending court proceedings as requested and preparing related documents.
  • Other duties may be assigned based on the needs of the program.
