About The Position

Castle Biosciences is growing and looking to hire a Clinical Research Scientist to work from their laboratory in Scottsdale, AZ. This role serves as a primary technical resource for assay-related troubleshooting, data review, feasibility assessments, and testing questions. The scientist will collaborate with R&D to translate new ideas into practical protocols and effective data-collection plans, ensuring methods can be performed consistently, scaled appropriately, and incorporated into a clinical laboratory environment. Responsibilities include reviewing results, investigating unexpected findings, optimizing workflows, developing and maintaining SOPs, supporting instrument verification and assay validation, and providing technical guidance to laboratory personnel. Collaboration with R&D, laboratory operations, quality, regulatory, and other cross-functional teams is essential. The role may also contribute to regulatory documentation and assay submissions, though regulatory writing is not the primary focus.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Life Science, Biology, or Clinical Laboratory Science and 4-7 years research/development experience OR Master's and 3-5 years of experience OR PhD and 1-2 years of experience
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency, scientific creativity, successful collaboration with others, and independent thought.
  • Minimum 4 years laboratory experience in High Complexity testing plus QA training or 2 years clinical QA experience
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Molecular techniques, digital imaging, multiplex immunolabeling, digital pathology, image analysis or processing, bioinformatics/computational biology
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary technical resource for assay-related troubleshooting, data review, feasibility assessments, and testing questions.
  • Work closely with R&D when new samples, study concepts, or potential projects are introduced, helping translate those ideas into practical protocols and effective data-collection plans.
  • Determine how proposed methods can be performed consistently, scaled appropriately, and ultimately incorporated into a clinical laboratory environment.
  • Review results and investigate unexpected findings.
  • Optimize workflows.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs.
  • Support instrument verification and assay validation activities.
  • Provide technical guidance to laboratory personnel.
  • Collaborate with R&D, laboratory operations, quality, regulatory, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to regulatory documentation and assay submissions.
