The role of the Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) facilitates and coordinates clinical research studies as part of a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities involve regulatory document processing, interactions with sponsors and Contract Research Organizations (CRO) as well as Institutional Review Boards. The CRN coordinates and oversees assigned study activities in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They perform study assessments as delegated by the Principal Investigator, process and ship study specimens, and dispense and account for investigatory products. The role also includes maintaining study supplies and study file documents.
