About The Position

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a full-time Clinical Research Data Analyst. The Clinical Research Data Analyst will directly support a busy and high-performing research program by working both independently and as part of a team on clinical data analysis. The Data Analyst will assist and work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Robert Wong. The Data Analyst will also take lead on developing research ideas and support research grant developments that are aligned with the clinical research focus on the current team. The research projects focus on understanding epidemiology and outcomes in patients with chronic liver diseases, with a focus on understanding healthcare disparities. This position is a full-time, 40 hour/week position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required
  • 2 years or more of related data analysis experience.
  • Work well both independently and in a collaboration with a team.
  • Ability to communicate data requirements, as well as limitations, to team members.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and database applications.
  • Capability to produce reference documents and to outline work processes in writing.
  • Exceptional scientific writing skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree
  • Prior experience and proficiency with analysis of VA data (e.g. Corporate Data Warehouse)
  • At least graduate level methodology and/or statistics coursework.
  • Proficiency in one or more statistical packages: SQL, SAS, R, STATA, and SPSS.
  • Prior experience working with other non-VA large datasets.
  • Prior experience designing and performing statistical analyses for health outcomes and/or health services research.
  • Prior experience with development of abstracts, posters, manuscripts that have been published in peer- review journals.
  • Experience with research protocols, regulatory requirements of governing bodies, HIPAA and FDA compliance is strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in PubMed research, data management and analysis, a bibliography or reference program (e.g., Endnote, Mendeley) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with large datasets, including VA corporate data warehouse.
  • Develop and update study analysis plans for research projects
  • Create data cohort, data curation, acquisition, and data cleaning.
  • Perform statistical analyses of large datasets (including VA electronic health records) for health outcomes and health services research questions.
  • Identify, validate, and resolve database and analysis issues.
  • Propose and perform appropriate statistical analysis methods to answer clinical and research questions.
  • Incorporate advanced statistical methods (e.g. propensity score matching, inverse probability weighting) when appropriate for analysis of observational data
  • Develop and propose new research ideas that are aligned with the current focus of the research team
  • Help support development of research grant opportunities
  • Take lead as primary author on at least 2 projects
  • Maintain regular check-in meetings with PI and/or research team via virtual format, or when necessary, in person.
  • Create and design tables and figures for scientific abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Assist with writing and/or reviewing abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Serve as primary author to present research at relevant scientific meetings and conferences as identified by the PI
  • Serve as primary author on projects where you are lead investigator to develop manuscripts for peer-review submission and publications
  • Perform other research duties as needed.
