About The Position

The Clinical Research Coordinator will work with Dr. Kuhn at the National Center for PTSD. This position is a unique opportunity to work in an innovative center of mental health care experts and researchers who are using cutting-edge technology to address the mental health crisis in the U.S. The position involves working with a cross-functional team to carry out research studies and perform data analysis involving large data sets for mental health and healthcare, digital mental healthcare interventions, and the potential for work on AI applications. The Research Coordinator will be responsible for handling research activities including screening, enrolling, and randomizing participants to study conditions. Additionally, in this role you will communicate administer study payments, manage and organize data collection, track and report study records to the research team, and coordinate team meetings. Strong data analytic skills, syntax creation, and coding are necessary for the position, as is knowledge of research management software including Qualtrics, REDCap, Excel, R/RStudio and Git/Github. Exceptional candidates will bring familiarity with mobile and web-based app analytics and dashboards, processing of complex JSON data streams, data visualization skills, and experience with additional data processing technologies including Python, SQL, Visual Studio, Azure, and AWS. This is a full-time position located in Menlo Park, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Advanced research assistant experience or research coordinator experience
  • 2 years or more of R programming experience
  • experience working with large data sets
  • Previous experience in a clinical and/or research environment
  • Knowledge and experience with web-based project management programs
  • Good interpersonal skills and strong collaborative attitude and capacity to interact with people
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative team
  • Good writing skills and ability to develop periodic reports on program activities
  • Knowledge of research study protocols and IRB procedures
  • Knowledge and experience with manuscript development and literature review
  • Working knowledge of inferential statistics
  • Experience analyzing large data sets and processing complex data structures
  • Ability to program using R / RStudio
  • Familiarity with Git / GitHub
  • Experience presenting data effectively to scientific, clinical, or other professional audiences
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a high-volume workload and adapt to changing priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Course work in social sciences, research, computer science, data science, statistics or related fields such as mathematics, engineering, or medical/clinical informatics
  • Knowledge of VA and its health care system regarding clinical research trials and understanding of VA procedures and safety regulations
  • Experience with mobile and/or web analytics, dashboards, and/or processing of JSON data streams
  • Experience working with behavioral, mental health, and/or electronic health record data, especially using VA systems

Responsibilities

  • Screen, enroll, and randomize research participants
  • Communicate and follow up with research participants
  • Coordinate routine meetings among key staff including creating agendas and leading meetings
  • Administer study payments
  • Manage and organize study data collection via REDCap and/or Qualtrics (e.g., baseline, post-treatment, and follow-up assessments)
  • Track and periodically report study records and progress to research team
  • Prepare reports to study sponsors, IRBs, DSMBs, and hospital research administration
  • Assist in budget management
  • Use R/RStudio and other technologies to process, integrate, and analyze data from research trials and VA operational platforms
  • Visualize and prepare analysis results for internal program use, academic presentations and publications, and/or public dissemination
  • Develop, document, and manage and share analysis workflows using Git/GitHub and other project management tools
  • Other tasks as assigned (e.g., literature reviews in manuscript development, IRB completion)
