In this position, you’ll be responsible for ensuring timely on-site response, assessment, and evaluation of potential organ donors. You will interact with hospital staff to set-up optimal family approach processes. You will assess with the medical staff the care plan, neurological & hemodynamic status, and family communication plan. You will evaluate donor designation, hemodilution and ABO confirmation. You will review all assessments with the MOC and request labs per LifeNet Health and hospital protocol. You will request appropriate medical interventions with the guidance of the MOC. You will obtain appropriate blood specimens for serological and HLA testing. You will communicate with outside agencies to facilitate laboratory testing. Your work will have purpose every single day, contributing directly to life-changing outcomes.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree
  • ONE OF THE FOLLOWING VALID LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: Respiratory Therapist (RT), Advanced EMT, EMT-I, or EMT-P, Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
  • TWO (2) years clinical/medical experience relative to required licensure or certification

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree – health related field
  • 1-year OPO experience managing clinical aspects of donation
  • Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Able to manage stressful situations involving complex clinical scenarios and family dynamics.
  • Able to perform tasks thoroughly and with care; checks work to ensure a high degree of accuracy/completeness and early/on-time delivery.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology and ability to communicate this to others
  • Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and build relationships with all professionals at various levels within and outside the organization.
  • Able to prioritize multiple, competing priorities and manage time/workload; demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task, identify project interdependencies and potential risks/pitfalls.
  • Able to make decisions independently regarding medical management of organ donors, staff triage, logistical arrangements.
  • Requires thinking through and solving problems step by step; often looking beyond the obvious solution to a problem.
  • Able to be collaborative and work as part of a team to resolve issues, complete tasks and meet business needs
  • Knowledge in medical compliance and data sharing

Responsibilities

  • Responds to donor referrals in all donor service area hospitals.
  • Performs independent assessment of potential donors to ensure the donor meets medical criteria for donation.
  • Obtains appropriate blood specimens for serological and HLA testing.
  • Communicates with LifeNet Health staff on all donor and referral activity to evaluate donation suitability based on information collected from patient’s hospital chart and communication with hospital staff.
  • Establishes initial dialogue with the hospital’s clinical team (HCT) concerning the referral to establish collaboration.
  • Communicates with hospital staff regarding LifeNet Health process and plans.
  • Assesses care plan, neurological and hemodynamic status, and family communication plan.
  • Maintains accurate documentation in LifeNet Health EMR and hospital EMR in compliance with hospital Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and LNH policy and practice.
  • Reviews referral hospital medical records and populates LifeNet’s electronic medical records (EMR) according to policy.
