About The Position

IWK Health is an academic health sciences centre providing care for children, youth, adults, and families across the Atlantic region. The Clinical Psychologist will be part of the Health Psychology Team and will report to the Manager of Children’s Ambulatory Medical Care. This role involves providing clinical assessment, treatment, and consultation for children and adolescents facing behavioral issues related to medical procedures, adherence to treatments, or coping with chronic illness. The psychologist will collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team and participate in training residents and practicum students. Clinical research is also supported. PhD Psychologists have flexibility in their practice while adhering to professional standards.

Requirements

Ph.D/ PsyD Degree in Clinical Psychology from an accredited university program.
Completion of an APA- or CPA Accredited Predoctoral Internship in Psychology.
Currently registered with or eligible to be registered with the NS Board of Examiners in Psychology.
Formal training and clinical experience in child/adolescent health psychology.
At least two (2) years of recent experience working with a Pediatric Health Psychology population.
Demonstrated ability to use evidence-based assessment and treatment methods within a health psychology context.
Demonstrated ability to consult and collaborate with internal professional and para-professional staff, family physicians, and community partners.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and formulate psychological treatment protocols for this population and co-morbidities.
Demonstrated ability to work well as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Ability to participate in the clinical training activities of the Psychology discipline.
Competencies in other languages.

Responsibilities

Providing clinical assessment, treatment, and consultation for children and adolescents with behavioral issues related to medical procedures or adherence to medical treatments.
Providing clinical assessment, treatment, and consultation for children and adolescents experiencing significant difficulty coping with chronic illness.
Collaborating with interdisciplinary care team members involved in patient care.
Training residents through the IWK Pre-Doctoral Residency Program and practicum students in Clinical Psychology.
