About The Position

The Diagnostic Evaluation Stabilization Center (DESC) at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital provides high-quality, state-of-the-art acute psychiatric care to a pediatric population in Washington Heights, Inwood, and surrounding areas. The patient population is diverse, spanning a wide range of cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds, with many from marginalized and underserved, lower socioeconomic status communities, primarily Latinx and African American. Many patients have not had previous mental health services. DESC functions as an outpatient crisis program to stabilize youth in need of psychiatric care while working with their parents, families, and caregivers to enhance treatment involvement. This role involves joining a dynamic, multicultural, interdisciplinary behavioral health care team working with youth and their families/caretakers experiencing a behavioral health crisis. Clinicians provide diagnostic assessment, crisis stabilization, short-term individual psychotherapy, and collateral sessions in an outpatient setting for youth with a range of anxiety, mood, and behavioral disorders, as well as risk for suicide. The care provided is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based, aiming to strengthen relationships and build skills for positive health outcomes and future success. The position also includes providing consultation, training, and prevention work to hospital system partners and community providers and agencies.
