About The Position

The Clinical Psychologist provides psychological assessment and therapeutic services, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning, and delivers individualized care for patients receiving psychiatric and rehabilitative services. This unique position will offer specialty psychological services to support growing demand in Women's Health and Mental Health services, and specialty Pain Management services. The Clinical Psychologist Provides assessment and therapeutic services to patients. These services include, but are not limited to, extensive psychological evaluations, individual, group, family, and/or couples therapy, treatment planning and discharge. Coordinates and provides individualized age appropriate care for patients. This position requires an interest and ability to work with patients who are undergoing psychiatric care and rehabilitation for functional deficits. Conducts extensive psychological assessments, using methods which may include personality and intelligence testing, brief screening for brain impairment, and more extensive neuropsychological testing. Interprets and reports results of psychological assessments in an accurate and timely manner. Assesses patient's need for services; treats accordingly within the parameters of the mast treatment plan for each patient and documents interventions; and develops/maintains therapeutic relationships with individuals. Serves as member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, participating in the coordination of the patient's treatment with the attending physician, care team members, referral sources, family, and /or others. Collaborates with other therapists and team members and supports the process of team building within the department and throughout the organization. Enhances professional growth by participating in educational activities to ensure ongoing competence in diagnosis and treatment of patients. Adheres to policies and procedures of the Carilion Clinic. Assists the management team in special projects. Provides education and training for other professional disciplines, hospital staff, and/or community groups/individuals.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Psychology from an APA accredited graduate school required.
  • 2 years clinical experience which may include the year of internship required.
  • The second year must be post-graduate and include supervision by a licensed Psychologist or Clinical Psychologist.
  • Licensed by Virginia by the Board of Medicine as a clinical psychologist or by the Board of Psychology as a Psychologist (Clinical), or in West Virginia by the Board of Examiners of Psychologists required.
  • Must have de-escalation training successfully completed within 4 months of hire and then maintained annually going forward when working in the inpatient environment.
  • Meets credentialing requirements.
  • Must have a commitment to continuing education.
