About The Position

The Division of Biobehavioral Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina is hiring for a clinical psychologist position. The candidate will be integrated into an existing Behavioral Medicine Clinic and will have responsibilities split between general Behavioral Medicine services (70%) and the SC Burn Center (30%). The role involves providing pre-surgical evaluations, psychosocial assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, and post-surgical psychological care. The position also includes active involvement in quality improvement and research efforts to support the division's academic missions. The Behavioral Medicine Clinic serves adults primarily in an outpatient capacity, with growing inpatient consultation and pediatric/teen/young adult services. The SC Burn Center role focuses on developing and extending behavioral health services to patients and families of burn victims, including screening, assessment, treatment planning, psychotherapy, and interprofessional collaboration.

Requirements

Doctoral level, licensed Psychologist.
Valid unrestricted license to practice in SC (or eligible for licensure in SC).

Responsibilities

Provide 70% clinical services in the Behavioral Medicine Clinic, including pre- and post-surgical psychological evaluations and management for bariatric and transplant patients, initial assessments and psychotherapy for cancer patients and caregivers, and evaluations/psychotherapy for patients with co-morbid psychiatric and medical illness.
Provide 30% clinical services in the SC Burn Center, integrating Behavioral Medicine services for pediatric and adult patients and families.
Develop, grow, and extend behavioral health services to patients and families of burn victims.
Conduct behavioral health screening and assessment of patients and families during and after burn recovery.
Create treatment plans to address emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial concerns.
Provide psychotherapy and behavioral health support with a focus on behavioral pain management, burn recovery, mood management, and general stress management.
Consult and collaborate with Burn Center providers regarding optimal treatment planning.
Actively participate in quality improvement and research efforts.
