About The Position

The Department of Medical Sciences at Northeastern University is seeking an Open Rank Clinical Professor for its Physician Assistant Program on the Boston campus. This is a 52-week, 1.0 FTE, non-tenure track faculty position. The role involves teaching in the didactic component of the PA Program curriculum, ensuring high educational and medical quality, program organization and administration, and student education and mentoring. Responsibilities also include scholarship contributions to PA education and clinical practice, and service to the program, university, and professional community. The Clinical Professor will assist in maintaining accreditation standards and ensuring Northeastern remains at the forefront of PA education. The position requires teaching graduate courses, engaging in scholarly activities, and participating in departmental, college, and university service.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in a field related to physician assistant practice or the education of physician assistant students.
  • Physician assistants must be currently certified by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Physician candidates must be certified by an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) specialty board or by an American Osteopathic Association (AOA) approved specialty board
  • Physician assistant or physician candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Proven experience in higher education (i.e. faculty, lecturer, preceptor, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal communication, organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency with computer technology (i.e. word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, databases)
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the physician assistant profession
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to integrate technology into the educational experience.
  • Ability of travel to clinical sites
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a practicing clinician

Responsibilities

  • Academic counseling of students
  • Participate in all aspects of Program administration
  • Participate in all aspects of program accreditation activities, including ongoing program review and the continuous self-study process
  • Serve on the admissions committee, including applicant selection
  • Participate in clinical site development
  • Participate in clinical site monitoring, including performing site visits during clinical rotations
  • Participate in all aspects of curriculum development, curriculum coordination, and curriculum evaluation
  • Participate in program goals, mission statement, and program values review and revision
  • Participate in all aspects of program evaluation
  • Review and revision of program competencies
  • Review and revision of program goals
  • Development and implementation of remediation plans for students in the didactic and clinical years, as needed
  • Provide continuous development, maintenance, and evaluation of both didactic courses and clinical rotation sites
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document student performance to ensure that they successfully achieve the criteria for successful completion of courses
  • Coordinate, teach, and instruct courses based on areas of content and clinical expertise
  • Advise and mentor students; participate in all aspects of retention and academic progression
  • Facilitate small group discussion sessions; participate in simulation and physical diagnosis and skills labs
  • Develop criteria and procedures for didactic and/or clinical courses consistent with ARC-PA Standards
  • Perform additional assignments at the direction of the Program Director of the Physician Assistant Program
  • Perform additional clinical year responsibilities at the direction of Director of Clinical Education
