About The Position

The Senior Pharmacist applies advanced knowledge and experience within the pharmacy discipline while often functioning in ambiguous situations. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments. Exercises latitude in determining objectives and approaches to moderately complex assignments. Determines own methods and approaches to work and establishes own work priorities and timelines; regularly contributes actionable ideas in planning sessions. Additional work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues. Projects and work often requires problem resolution of non-standard challenges and requires generation of new solutions to complex problems, frequently looking beyond the immediate problem to wider implications. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure that results and objectives have been met. Identifies areas for improvement and proactively addresses problems within scope of responsibility. Regularly makes recommendations for new processes; modifies existing tools, techniques, and processes with approval from leadership. Supports the development and implementation of new processes or techniques. Builds professional networks and identifies and connects resources to solve issues and achieve goals. Serves as a project leader. Serves as a resource for leadership and staff, as well as a mentor to others in respective clinical areas. Leads in resolution of day-to-day technical and/or procedural challenges. When designated as a facility Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), in addition to performing day-to-day pharmacy duties, the Senior Pharmacist assures compliance with accepted standards and laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy. Ensures policies and procedures are implemented for pharmacy employees for the storage and handling of drugs and the communication of information to the public in relation to drug therapy. Supervises all professional and non-professional employees of the pharmacy. Assures that pharmacists, residents, interns and technicians are registered with the Board of Pharmacy. Maintains record keeping systems. Ensures policies and procedures are implemented for the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA), pharmacy technicians, quality assurance, and other drug management services. According to the pharmacy's needs, may perform staff pharmacist duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions.
  • Knowledge of state and local regulations.
  • License must be in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.
