About The Position

The Clinical Pharmacy Analyst role at Wellmark is a newly created opportunity within the growing Pharmacy team, focusing on blending clinical insights with data-driven storytelling. This position involves evaluating pharmacy solutions that impact healthcare delivery by gathering, validating, and interpreting clinical and economic evidence in a collaborative, matrixed environment. The analyst will translate complex data into clear, meaningful insights, contributing to established analyses and models that quantify expected benefits, costs, and risks to optimize healthcare resources. A key aspect is transforming numerical data into concise, actionable recommendations that communicate financial impact, member and provider experience, and health outcomes to decision-makers. The role requires close partnership with Business Analytics, Actuarial, and Health Services teams to ensure strong solution performance measurement, high data integrity, and consistent documentation. Additionally, the analyst will support formulary maintenance activities, conduct literature reviews (HEOR/CER), and develop compelling presentations. Continuous development in pharmacoeconomic methods and consultative communication skills is expected, fueled by critical thinking, curiosity, and an inquisitive mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or related clinical discipline.
  • 4+ years of clinical pharmacy experience in health plan, PBM, or related industry which includes ability to conduct pharmacoeconomic reviews. Experience may include relevant internship(s) and pharmacy-based health system roles such as medication use evaluation and pharmacy quality improvement roles.
  • Proven ability to organize and analyze clinical data, develop predictive models to drive business decisions, interpret the model results, turn data into actionable insights, and effectively communicate model results.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office & advanced Excel skills – e.g. pivot tables, trend analysis, and formulas. Technical aptitude to learn new data management and analysis tools or methodologies quickly.
  • Excellent analytical skills, data management capabilities, and strong attention to detail. Ability to review data and provide measurable outcomes and trend measures to support and influence business decisions. Possesses natural curiosity and able to influence business decisions and devise solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to accurately and effectively summarize clinical literature.
  • Effective organization and prioritization skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines while also adapting to changing priorities and business needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to quickly build rapport, credibility and collaborative partnerships with peers, leaders and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct and applicable experience in data analytics or related field that includes experience with data tools (i.e. SAS, SQL, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong clinical literature review and analytical writing skills.
  • PharmD.
  • If PharmD, active and unrestricted Pharmacy license in Iowa or South Dakota (individual must be licensed in the state in which they reside) is required within 6 months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Support the evaluation of pharmacy solutions by collecting, validating, and organizing clinical and economic data.
  • Participate in opportunity sizing analyses and contribute to the preparation of data-driven recommendations for pharmacy initiatives.
  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings from clinical trials, cost of care studies, and health economic evaluations, focusing on data quality and relevance.
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of pharmacy value stories, articulating return on investment (ROI), health outcomes, member, and provider impact.
  • Perform data entry, modeling, and reporting to support formulary decisions and ongoing formulary maintenance activities.
  • Develop and maintain tools and templates for tracking outcomes and value associated with clinical pharmacy interventions.
  • Contribute to cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, and budget impact analyses by preparing data sets and supporting calculations.
  • Compile and organize Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) and Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) materials for presentations and decision-making.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal teams and external partners, supporting collaborative pharmacoeconomic evaluations.
  • Continuously develop skills in evolving data analytics, clinical pharmacy, and consultative communication through active participation in team projects and training.
