About The Position

Beverly Hospital is seeking experienced and committed Clinical Pharmacists to join their team. Beverly Hospital is a Level III Trauma Center and not-for-profit community hospital located on the North Shore of Massachusetts. As part of the Beth Israel Lahey Health System, it utilizes integrated resources to provide high-quality care for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. The hospital also offers inpatient maternity and psychiatry services. The Pharmacy Department serves multiple facilities within the Northeast Hospital Corporation. Clinical Pharmacists are essential to ensuring safe, effective, timely, patient-centered, and evidence-based care. They are integral members of the healthcare team, rotating through decentralized and centralized shifts. The role involves interpreting and evaluating medication orders and prescriptions, providing medication expertise, and preparing and dispensing medications. Pharmacists also supervise and verify the accuracy of work performed by pharmacy technicians and interns. They are involved in quality improvement, safety, and operations initiatives, and serve on interdisciplinary committees and as liaisons across the institution. Collaboration with nurses, physicians, and other personnel is crucial for optimal pharmaceutical care.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of hospital practice and operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and other colleagues
  • Expertise in clinical knowledge and patient care
  • Current licensure as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required
  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical pharmacy experience (2+ years) in a hospital setting
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Practice Residency
  • Exceptional aptitude or knowledge may be considered in lieu of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Clinically review all medication orders to ensure medications are safe for administration, assessing drug selection, allergies, dose, route, diagnosis, interactions, and patient age.
  • Intervene with appropriate healthcare professionals when necessary and document clinical interventions.
  • Enter reviewed orders into the Pharmacy Information system, considering medication administration.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and interns, ensuring patient needs are met and educating them on safe medication practices.
  • Provide drug information to medical staff and patients, documenting requests.
  • Manage day-to-day drug distribution, including controlled substances, IV medications, compounded medications, repackaged medications, and investigational drugs.
  • Understand and utilize all technology to accomplish job duties.
  • Serve as a liaison between the pharmacy department and healthcare providers.
  • Responsible for own professional development, including continuing education and staying current with professional literature.
  • Actively participate in continuous performance improvement activities and suggest operational improvements.
  • Perform assigned projects efficiently and in a timely manner.
