About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in Investigational Drug Services (IDS). As an IDS Clinical Pharmacist Specialist, you will be a registered pharmacist with responsibility and accountability for the safe, effective, and timely delivery of investigational therapies. You will provide specialized pharmacy services for patients enrolled in clinical trials and receiving treatment at our South/Southwest ambulatory locations, while collaborating with investigators, research teams, and the broader IDS Pharmacy team. Join us as we expand the research pharmacy infrastructure at our southwest satellite sites, broadening research access beyond the academic medical center and bringing cutting-edge clinical studies directly into the community! This Clinical Pharmacist Specialist position will provide IDS support for clinical, pharmacy, and research study teams at satellite sites within the UCM research network. Pharmaceutical care services include but are not limited to assessing patient needs, incorporating protocol-specific age and disease specific characteristics into drug therapy, adjusting care according to patient response, and providing clinical interventions to detect, mitigate, and prevent medication adverse events as specified in research protocols. The role will provide operational support for dose preparation/verification and drug storage/inventory management at satellite sites and ensure appropriate integrity and compliance with clinical trial protocols and research and pharmacy regulations.

Requirements

Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy
Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency
Knowledge of contemporary hospital/clinical practice and service.
Knowledge and understanding of general hospital operations and regulatory compliance.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and support personnel.
Ability to integrate clinical and distributive pharmacy services with quality improvement, teaching, research, and professional development activities.
Significant general clinical knowledge and expertise in traditional therapeutics and patient centered care.
Significant knowledge and expertise in advanced pharmacy practice, specialty medication therapy management, and specialty evidence-based medicine in area appropriate for clinical assignments.
Strong teaching and precepting skills and expertise in experiential training.
Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Illinois or eligible (complete licensure process within 60 days of employment).
Board Certification in area of expertise is required within 18 months of hire (e.g., BPS, SOCRA)

Nice To Haves

Doctor of Pharmacy or another advanced degree
PGY-2 Investigational Drug Research or clinical research pharmacy experience (2-4 years) in a hospital setting (required if no PGY-2 residency).

Responsibilities

Provide specialized pharmacy services for patients enrolled in clinical trials and receiving treatment at South/Southwest ambulatory locations.

Serve as departmental resources and liaisons to other departments, hospital personnel, or external groups.
Manage and facilitate the appropriate use of medications according to professional and regulatory standards.
Conduct clinical research and practice advancement projects.
Undertake patient care quality and regulatory compliance initiatives.
Provide medication and practice-related education/training.
Actively serve as preceptors for pharmacy learners (PGY1 and PGY2 residents; APPE and IPPE pharmacy students).
Participate in Site Initiation Visits, study activation, proof of concept for studies, drug accountability, and other elements germane to IDS pharmacy.
