About The Position

Reports to the Director, Medication Safety, Quality, and Information Technology. Under the supervision of the Clinical Informatics Pharmacy Coordinator works closely with clinical pharmacy and Brown University Health Information Services (IS) team for clinical elements of medication builds in EPIC, with intra-departmental oncology and IS teams for clinical elements of medication builds in Beacon, and with ambulatory pharmacy, retail pharmacy, and IS teams for clinical elements of medication builds in Willow Ambulatory. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of electronic health record (EHR) system builds for new medications and revisions to existing medications. Advises and provides input on the development of service request submission forms, testing plans, admixture records, order panels and order sets, alternative warnings, and other Pharmacy relevant information. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Maintains current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • At least two years pharmacy experience, preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex integrated health care system, or completion of an ASHP accredited PGY2 residency in Pharmacy Informatics.
  • Understanding of health-system pharmacy operations and systems including: EHRs, automated dispensing technology, databases, and database programs.
  • Experience with interoperability of Brown University Health’s EHR systems, EPIC, Beacon, and Willow, or similar EHR system, and automated dispensing technology.
  • Proactive critical thinking, high level of attention to detail, and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively, in both oral and written form, to all levels of hospital personnel.
  • Strong customer service skills and connection to purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the implementation and maintenance, within the scope of the pharmacy’s responsibilities, of EHR system enhancements to consistently promote medication safety for optimal patient care.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Pharmacy Services, Pharmacy Operations, and Medication Safety and Quality personnel at each affiliate to ensure that requests for new medication builds, or revisions to existing medication builds, are vetted appropriately system wide.
  • Collaborates with IS analysts to ensure accuracy and completeness of builds for new medications and revisions to existing medications.
  • Advises and provides input on the development of service request submission forms, testing plans, admixture records, order panels and order sets, alternative warnings, and other Pharmacy relevant information.
  • Facilitates monthly First Data Bank (FDB) updates.
  • Participates in departmental quality assurance activities, implementation of new technologies, and hospital wide initiatives as they relate to pharmacy informatics.
  • Troubleshoots and provides technical support to Pharmacy staff members to resolve informatics questions or issues or directs them to the most appropriate resource.
  • Monitors and responds to customer inquiries or complaints to provide positive and productive customer service.
  • Participates in precepting pharmacy students and residents via a structured academic pharmacy informatics rotation.
