The Clinical Pharmacist – Oncology Infusion supports pharmacy services within the Taussig Cancer Center, serving a high-volume oncology patient population across inpatient, outpatient infusion, decentralized, and remote care settings. This well-balanced role offers unique exposure to multiple areas of oncology pharmacy practice, including order verification, direct provider support, sterile compounding oversight, and advanced pharmacy technology, including two large-scale chemotherapy robotics systems. Pharmacists rotate through a variety of responsibilities, including remote and floor-based order verification, real-time clinical triage and provider collaboration within infusion treatment areas, in-pharmacy operational support, IV robotics oversight, chemotherapy product verification, and quality assurance of sterile medication preparations. Unlike many oncology infusion roles, this position also offers opportunities to cross-train into inpatient oncology staffing and decentralized clinical coverage, providing broad professional development and exposure to diverse patient care environments.

Requirements

  • PharmD or Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy
  • Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire
  • For individuals required to administer immunizations, Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required.

  • Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience
  • Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area (Oncology)
  • Hospital experience in an IV/clean room environment strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.
  • Verify medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
  • Document services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
  • Actively contribute to medication safety initiatives.
  • Ensure all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.
  • Directs staff appropriately to provide safe and efficient care and maintain professional working relationships with all caregivers.
  • Educate and train students, residents, other caregivers and/or patients.
