About The Position

Reports to the Clinical Patient Access Manager or Patient Access Manager, the Clinical Patient Access Specialist is primarily responsible for relaying reviewed normal, expected, or abnormal results to patients. The Clinical Patient Access Specialist will successfully manage large amounts of inbound calls while ensuring all pertinent medical information and care needs for patients are identified, documented, and communicated to the provider. The Clinical Patient Access Specialist is always responsible for creating a positive impression with patients, family members and other callers.

Requirements

  • Active certification or license of LPN, CMA, RMA, or EMT.
  • One year of experience in area of certification in a clinical setting.
  • An approved credential such as LPN, CMA, RMA, EMT.

Responsibilities

  • Relay reviewed normal, expected, or abnormal results to patients.
  • Manage large amounts of inbound calls, identifying, documenting, and communicating pertinent medical information and care needs to the provider.
  • Create a positive impression with patients, family members, and other callers.
  • Understand and uphold SEP’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including OSHA/CLIA/HIPAA regarding scheduling of patients and release of medical information.
  • Accurate documentation in the EMR.
  • Provide instructions and results to patients under the direction of providers.
  • Communicate with offices regarding patient concerns/issues related to results.
  • Schedule appointments for patients based on office scheduling preference cards and/or decision trees.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with team members, medical practice members, and leadership.
  • Verify and update all patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Provide information and communicate effectively to resolve issues with patients, providers, other associates, management, and insurance companies.
  • Advise patients of outstanding balances.
  • Ensure accurate and timely distribution of patient requests.
  • Work with the central billing office and physicians/clinicians as needed in a timely manner on all requests.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
