About The Position

Cedar Recovery is a CARF accredited outpatient addiction treatment company based in Mount Juliet, TN. The company owns and operates thirteen (13) office-based opioid treatment (OBOT) facilities, opioid treatment programs (OTP), and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) in Tennessee & Virginia. Cedar’s approach to treatment combines the utilization of medications for opioid use disorder (Methadone, Buprenorphine, and Naltrexone) coupled with counseling, mental health treatment, peer recovery support, and case management to deliver an integrated model of care in addressing substance use disorders. Cedar Recovery is seeking to employ a part-time Hybrid Clinical / Outpatient Pharmacist to serve its Bristol Opioid Treatment Program. The pharmacist serves in a key leadership role within the facility by providing both direct patient care under a collaborative practice agreement and fulfilling medication dispensing responsibilities. The candidate must possess a valid and unrestricted license to practice as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Pharmacist will ensure compliance with DEA and state rules regarding the ordering, storage, and logging of medications. This position reports directly to the facility Medical Director or Pharmacist-in-Charge. The successful applicant will be responsible for receiving, packaging, verifying, and dispensing both methadone and buprenorphine/naloxone medications for patients receiving care within the facility. Cedar anticipates this position will require between 20-25 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Possess an unrestricted and unencumbered license to practice as a Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited pharmacy school.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-centered care and medication management under a collaborative practice agreement (CPA) both in-person and telehealth.
  • Receive methadone and buprenorphine orders to review for administering and dispensing.
  • Prepare and verify take-home doses of methadone and buprenorphine medications.
  • Provide patient counseling and education regarding medication dosing, side effects, risks, benefits, and potential interactions.
  • Consult with the supervising medical provider to adjust treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient progress.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss complex cases, treatment barriers, and recovery milestones.
  • Monitor the preparation and dispensing of medications for accuracy ensuring correct dosing, formulation, and labeling.
  • Review and optimize prescribed medications in order to identify, prevent, and resolve potential drug-related issues
  • Manage and supervise pharmacy technicians, interns, and students to promote safe, efficient, and effective pharmacy operations.
  • Perform regular audits for medication stock and supplies, ensuring all medications are accounted for and stored according to the federal and state standards.
  • Report compliance violations, medication discrepancies, patient adverse reaction, and/or diversion concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with all DEA, state, and federal rules for the ordering, dispensing, disposing, and storage of controlled substances.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and report to the state’s controlled substance monitoring database and central registry as required by law.
  • Provide input on operational and strategic decisions related to Cedar’s program.
  • Demonstrate Cedar’s core values and culture.
  • Implement Cedar’s strategic initiatives, programs, and directives in the facility.
  • When requested, attend conferences, meetings, and other events.
  • Be available to all personnel supervised by the pharmacist to provide guidance or direction.
  • Maintain knowledge of up-to-date best practices related to addiction and mental health treatment.
  • Utilize Cedar’s data and KPI to dashboard to drive improvement and efficiency.
  • Identify process improvements and recommendations within the medical operations and report such findings to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer.
  • Remaining flexible to change in an ever-evolving field of medicine.
