About The Position

We are seeking a Clinical Operations Supervisor to manage and coordinate patient care and personnel need in a Cardiology Diagnostic Unit; plan, develop, implement and evaluate ambulatory health care services, programs and activities. Perform daily clinical operation of Echocardiography and Vascular ultrasound including echocardiograms, stress echo’s, treadmills, carotids, AAA, ABI, renal, and lower extremity ultrasound. Position requires entering preliminary interpretations on all procedures. This position is required to be flexible with clinic hours and Duke Cardiology Heart locations.

Requirements

  • Work requires a bachelor's degree in biology, physiology, psychology or related scientific field.
  • Work requires four years of clinical technical experience to gain expertise in the principles, theories, procedures and equipment in the clinical area of assignment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • 2D, 3D, and stress echocardiography imaging
  • Echocardiography and vascular ultrasound experience in a hospital setting or large cardiology clinic.
  • Complete thorough studies and reports within allotted time frames.
  • Work well under pressure and time constraints.
  • Self-motivated, works well independently and as a team.
  • Timely and accurate reporting with experience in EPIC.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Phillips and GE systems.
  • Able to multitask throughout the day.
  • Reach out for additional tasks when caught up.
  • Work well with patients and be sensitive to their needs and abilities.
  • Preparing patients for stress testing.
  • Experience with administering Ultrasound Enhancing Agent.
  • Effective communication, team support, initiative, and patient centered.
  • Ability to function independently, while maintaining quality and meeting the labor standard of 1 procedure including report per hour.
  • Understanding of Cardiac Pathology and the ability to verbalize evaluating them appropriately.
  • Understanding of ultrasound physics, image optimization.

Nice To Haves

  • Cardiology experience preferred.
  • Certification in both echocardiography and vascular ultrasound.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Preferred depending on clinic need.
  • Prefer certification from American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)/Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Certification in Adult Echocardiography (RDCS or RCS respectively), or CCI Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS).
  • ICAEL & ICAVL standards and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement departmental policy and procedures to solve specific operating problems and improve patient care.
  • Manage specific clinic in absence of Practice Administrator/Nurse Manager; and be available on-call for emergencies involving the facility, staff members and patients.
  • Complete timely and thorough echo, stress echo and vascular scans and documentation.
  • Demonstrates proficiency by performing routine and urgent echocardiograms, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, 3- dimensional, Doppler, and Stress Echocardiogram, as requested by physician and in accordance with standard practices.
  • Manage Cardiology procedural services delivered in the clinic.
  • Implement cardiology related procedural updates and new services.
  • Cross coverage as needed in echocardiography and vascular.
  • Accurate documentation and measurements for procedures performed and studies appropriately assigned.
  • Prepare paperwork for each study and ensure all necessary documentation is available.
  • Ability to thoroughly, and efficiently, evaluate pathology following current guidelines (American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), American College of Cardiology (ACC), etc.).
  • Perform pre-arrival assessment of patient's medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures.
  • Manage various personnel actions including, but not limited to hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, promotions and scheduling; and counsel and conduct formal discipline of clinical staff.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance programs relating to Cardiology imaging accreditation (IAC) and calibration and maintenance of equipment.
  • Develop and implement processes to enhance clinic operations and practices for ongoing quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with Practice Administrator/Nurse Manager in determining the fiscal requirements of the specific clinic; submit budgetary recommendations, including necessary nursing personnel and patient care materials necessary for the provision of care.
  • Cultivate exemplary customer service throughout the organization; promote effective communication skills to include, but not limited to problem solving, assertiveness, and support for team members, feedback, active listening and conflict resolution.
  • Identify clinical operational needs; manage appropriate level of equipment and supplies and monitors equipment maintenance.
  • Assess the environment and make recommendations to ensure optimal patient comfort, safety and compliance with various regulatory bodies (OSHA, JCAHO, etc.).
  • Enforces regulatory and compliance requirements (HIPPA, JCAHO, etc).
  • Accountable for understanding, enforcing and following all internal controls, particularly as they relate to cash management policies and procedures.
  • Develop, coordinate and participate in training programs in ambulatory clinical cardiology.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
