About The Position

We are seeking a Clinical Operations Informatics Specialist to serve as a key liaison between medical staff, Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, and clinical data operations. This role focuses on improving clinical workflows, validating healthcare data, supporting EHR initiatives, and providing actionable insights that enhance clinical practice and operational decision-making across Health Services. The Clinical Operations Informatics Specialist supports workflow improvement, clinical data analysis, reporting, and validation activities that inform healthcare practice and organizational decision-making. This is a highly collaborative, clinical-facing role focused on clinical operations, end-user experience, and healthcare data integrity. The ideal candidate will effectively translate between medical staff, Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, and clinical data needs. This position works closely with the Health Services EHR team and partners with technical teams responsible for EHR configuration and development. Through workflow analysis, data validation, reporting, and stakeholder engagement, this role helps improve clinical operations and supports evidence-based decision-making across Health Services.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience independently structuring unclassified medical data from unstructured text and mapping data elements to standardized medical vocabularies to support interoperability, clinical decision support, coding, and analytics.
  • Deep understanding of medical vocabularies from both clinical and informatics perspectives.
  • Extensive experience extracting data from Electronic Health Record systems.
  • Demonstrated experience translating clinical questions into data analyses using EHR data.
  • Demonstrated experience validating EHR data against external data sources.
  • Demonstrated experience validating EHR data through triangulation with other EHR data sources.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting clinical workflows, EHR data entry processes, and data management procedures.
  • Extensive experience applying national EHR standards to EHR products.
  • Demonstrated experience standardizing processes during EHR implementations.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and documenting clinical workflows within multidisciplinary care environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clinical and data findings clearly to medical staff, leadership, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary clinical environments with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Experience working with EHR systems in a clinical capacity.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Richmond, Virginia.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical or medical background in nursing, medicine, pharmacy, or a related healthcare discipline.
  • Correctional healthcare experience.
  • Experience working in institutional or other constrained multidisciplinary clinical environments.
  • Local candidates strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, document, and evaluate current clinical workflows across healthcare service units.
  • Identify workflow gaps and opportunities for process improvement and standardization.
  • Develop and maintain a documented inventory of clinical workflows within the EHR environment.
  • Provide prioritized recommendations that improve operational efficiency and user experience.
  • Support statewide standardization efforts across clinical facilities.
  • Extract, structure, and analyze clinical and operational data from Electronic Health Record systems.
  • Translate clinical questions into meaningful data analyses and actionable insights.
  • Validate extracted data against reliable external and internal data sources.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and visualizations that support leadership decision-making.
  • Establish best practices for clinical data extraction, reporting, and evidence-based analysis.
  • Perform user-focused validation and testing of EHR updates, enhancements, and system changes.
  • Support testing efforts for Medication Administration Record (MAR) functionality and related EHR projects.
  • Identify and address validation gaps to improve system reliability and data quality.
  • Document testing results and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a clinical point of contact for EHR-related questions, requests, and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with medical staff, operational leaders, and technical teams to support clinical objectives.
  • Communicate clinical and analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Establish clear documentation and processes to ensure continuity of work and knowledge transfer.
  • Support multidisciplinary stakeholder groups in achieving clinical and operational goals.
