About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Clinical Oncology Pharmacist to join our team! This role is responsible for developing, monitoring, and overseeing the overall operation of pharmaceutical services for oncology at all infusion locations to ensure safe, effective, and affordable medication use. The position ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulatory standards. It also assists in the controls of the purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals and related substances and supplies at the practice location. The Clinical Oncology Pharmacist participates in department planning, revenue analysis, and budgeting, and assists in applicable meetings and committees involving clinical pharmacy at the practice location. This role is responsible for assisting the Director of Pharmacy to develop and coordinate the operation of the Pharmacy Department in distributive and clinical services provided by the Pharmacy Department at all locations supported by the pharmacy staff of Mountain View Hospital.

Requirements

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent.
  • Graduate from accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Current Pharmacist certification or licensure in the State of Idaho.
  • Minimum 5 years (or equivalent) as a practicing pharmacist with 2 years of specialized experience in specialized area of practice location or equivalent residency experience.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn hospital information system.
  • Automated pharmacy systems as implemented, IV Laminar Flow Hood.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as dosage calculations, formulation of pharmaceutical preparations, data analysis, exponents and logarithms.
  • Works well under pressure, and can meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Can work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Is capable of maintaining confidentiality.
  • Self-directed, motivated and capable of supervising support personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • PGY2 Completion and Board Certification in Oncology are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works with administration on planning, organizing and directing Oncology Pharmacy Department operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Monitors activities of the Oncology Pharmacy Department and takes appropriate actions as necessary to ensure efficient and effective operation.
  • Works closely with the nursing and medical staffs and other clinical department managers in addressing Oncology Pharmacy Department issues as they are related to the services provided to all patients ranging from the newborn to the elderly.
  • Demonstrates ability to promote an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Directs the purchase and inventory, storage and distribution maintenance of all pharmaceutical items in departmental and patient care locations.
  • Participates in the development or revision, implementation and communication of policies, guidelines and standards for the Oncology Pharmacy Department in accordance with hospital’s policies as well as federal and state regulations.
  • Assists in coordination of the department’s in-service training.
  • Attends and participates on committees such as the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee and Department Manager’s Meeting.
  • Provides coverage as a staff pharmacist for the department as necessary.
  • Works in the community to bring positive attention to the effective patient care that the facility provides.
  • Maintains a system of records in accordance with hospital policy for recording patient charges as well as maintain adequate controls over requisitioning and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintains formularies, information resources and references for preparations.
  • Responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance improvement and CQI activities assigned to the Oncology, Infusion, and/or Pharmacy Departments.
  • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts and draws valid conclusions that can be clearly communicated to coworkers and administration.
  • Interprets an extensive variety of technical instructions and deals with several abstract variables.
  • Applies necessary advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents and logarithms.
  • Applies mathematical operations to such tasks as dosage calculations, formulation of pharmaceutical preparations and data analysis.
  • Reads, analyzes and interprets pharmacy-related journals and literature.
  • Responds to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the hospital staff.
  • Effectively presents information to management, medical staff, hospital staff and public groups when applicable.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Has knowledge of and maintains regulatory requirements, including all state and federal regulations.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety and infection control.
  • Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directive to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.
