About The Position

The Chief Clinical Dietitian (CCD) is responsible for coordinating and directing all clinical nutrition activities through directing the clinical coordinators, clinical dietitians, diet clerks and associates. The CCD works with the Food Service Director to maintain a food service department that provides appropriate medical nutrition therapy and patient care by providing nutritious meals and snacks and maintaining the customer satisfaction. In carrying out assigned responsibilities, the CCD must ensure that supervised personnel will comply with BUHMC, government, and corporate policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition required
  • Minimum two (2) years as Chief or Assistant Chief Clinical Dietitian; preferably in clinical nutrition.
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable about applicable regulations of JCAHO, OBRA, and New York State.
  • Familiar with managing in union environment.
  • Good management skills, able to develop goals, assess performance and develop development plans.
  • Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD).
  • Certified Dietitian Nutritionist, New York State certification.
  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (American Dietetic Association).

Nice To Haves

  • Master Degree in Nutrition preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret clinical and other clinical diet related data. Accurately assess patient dietary needs utilizing the Standards of Care.
  • Plan and develop patient menus that meet therapeutic needs of facility and physician requirements.
  • Maintain policy and procedure manual. Develop clinical and patient services, polices, and procedures.
  • Plan and implement performance improvement programs. Develop standards of nutritional care.
  • Considers cost effectiveness in the development of the nutrition formulary.
  • Monitors and controls labor cost and other budgets as responsible.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use the computerized information system.
  • Delegate responsibilities as appropriate; and provides staff with the training necessary to perform assigned tasks. Follows up on delegated responsibilities.
  • Determine time frames for program implementation (new menus, labor reduction, and equipment installation).
  • Develop and review schedules for the Assistant Chief and Coordinators including monitoring time and attendance. Documents problem areas and counsels when necessary.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and assists staff in formulating plans for developing new skills that will lead to process improvement and efficiencies.
  • Develop and conducts in-service training, incorporating behavioral objectives, planned activities, and audiovisual resources.
  • Articulate the process of developing comprehensive skill-based training for employees.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
