About The Position

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Clinical Nurse – Public Surgical Inpatient Unit to join us in a full time, 12-month parental leave contract role from late August 2026 until early September 2027. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield which opened in early 2026. This state-of-the-art facility meets the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Requirements

  • Currently AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
  • Demonstrated nursing experience within a surgical setting or have transferable skills that can be developed with professional training
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and clinical problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued quality improvement and best practice principles
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or have a perioperative ANMAC occupation code for sponsorship purposes

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced clinical and problem-solving skills, expert planning and coordination skills in the clinical management of clients with complex care needs, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Provide clinical leadership for professional and clinical practice, education and research.
  • Support management activities, including portfolio responsibilities where applicable.
  • Achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the patient journey and continuum of care.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical expertise and knowledge of procedures and the management of patients seeking outstanding care.
  • Support the Nurse Unit Manager in implementing strategies to ensure that quality and risk management are integrated into service provision, along with staffing within budget requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth.
