About The Position

The Department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Clinical Nurse who applies nursing and clinic knowledge and skills to the delivery of individuals and/or population-based patient care in the clinics at Green Spring, White Marsh, and Towson.

Requirements

  • Individual must be a Registered Nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
  • CPR and AED certified.
  • Working knowledge of Epic.
  • Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard to input and obtain data.
  • Knowledge of nursing process, social, behavioral, biological and physical science.
  • Knowledge of current health care environment.
  • Accountable authority for decisions regarding patient care.
  • Ability to analyze data to synthesize and summarize information and make judgments regarding patient care.
  • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care.
  • Ability to monitor unit and foster teamwork.
  • Maintain confidentiality per clinical and operational standards and holds others accountable.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating care for assigned patients to promote the achievement of clinical outcomes.
  • Provide direct patient care based on the nursing process while mentoring others to promote quality and excellence of care.
  • Establishes a plan of care in conjunction with the physician and will include other disciplines as needed, especially in our Head and Neck and Facial Plastic Divisions.
  • Provide pre- and post-op education to patients and patient families.
  • Ensures a high level of nursing care to patients, in conjunction with provider to assist in procedures.
  • Independently providing nurse visit care, which includes surgical site assessment, wound care, suture removal and other post op care.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary health care team to optimize team performance.
  • Establishes and implements policies and procedures for the specialty practice and patients.
  • Serves as a liaison between the patient /family and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Accountable for own decisions regarding patient care.
  • Identifies impending changes in patient condition and individual performance issues.
  • Analyzes patient care data to deliver and evaluate care.
  • Triages and reviews incoming phone messages, Epic InBasket and communications with doctors and/or patients as needed.
  • Knowledge of current health care environment.
  • This position communicates regularly with the Nurse Manager so that the Nurse manager can be aware of trends for longer term problem solving.
  • Mentors’ others to promote quality, safety, and excellence in clinical care.
  • Mentor new clinical staff and provide ongoing education in conjunction with Nurse Manager.
  • Promotes and identifies quality improvement initiatives that are aligned with the departmental and organizational safety and operational goals.
  • Provides assistance and support to clinic and nursing staff as needed.
  • Utilizes materials and resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Serves as a clinical expert resource to leadership and staff in the development and implementation of nursing standards consistent with the established model of care.
  • Maintains leadership competency by participation in continuing education, professional organizations, and other related activities.
  • Works collaboratively with clinical leadership and supportive resources to ensure that patients have access to comprehensive interdisciplinary patient and family educational programs throughout their care trajectory.
