Requirements

  • RN license
  • NICU experience (implied by role and department)
  • Experience in maternal child departments (Perinatology, LDR, Mother/Baby, LDRP, NICU)
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act
  • Ability to perform physical assessments
  • Ability to administer medications
  • Ability to collect specimens
  • Ability to meet nutritional and emotional needs of patients
  • Ability to provide patient education and discharge planning
  • Knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies, and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act for assigned patients in maternal child departments including Perinatology, LDR, Mother/Baby, LDRP and NICU.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care.
  • Provides physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional and emotional needs, and education and discharge needs of the patients assigned.
  • Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs.
  • Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • In addition to the above responsibilities, the Clinical Nurse II/III/IV is involved in Hoag Committee/Council with at least 50% attendance, communicates quarterly to UPC (Unit Practice Council) on committee/council work, and completes four supplemental activities a year.
