CNS/Clinical Nurse Specialist, Level IV Neonatal ICU, UWMC
About The Position
UW Medical Center – Montlake has an opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in our Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Clinical Nurse Specialist contributes to the advancement of nursing practice and the continuous improvement of patient care through: Clinical support Education Research Organizational leadership and support Professional development UNIT DESCRIPTION Bring your experience and great compassion in caring for multiple births and micro preemies—babies born before 26 weeks gestation or weighing less than 2.2 pounds. As part of UW Medicine, the NICU has access to the most advanced neonatal research. Our team has been instrumental in setting the standard for reducing risk of brain damage and lung problems in premature babies across the nation. Come work with an interdisciplinary team of neonatologists, nurses, neonatal physical therapists, respiratory care practitioners, pharmacists, nutritionists, other health professionals and parents as members of a baby's health-care team.
Requirements
- Master of Nursing (MSN) or higher.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Five or more years of nursing experience.
- Five or more years of recent Level IV NICU experience.
- Current RNC-NIC or CCRN-Neonatal certification.
- Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary, collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership abilities.
- Advanced clinical expertise with a focus on quality outcomes and evidence-based practice.
- The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for responding to the dynamic needs of the organization, nursing staff, and patients in an ever-changing healthcare environment.

Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and clinical guidance to nursing team members.
- Serves as the clinical expert and resource for neonatal nursing care.
- Provides education, information, and resources to enhance nursing practice and elevate clinical skills.
- Leads the development and implementation of evidence-based protocols and policies, promotes clinical standards and practice improvements, and evaluates outcomes.
- Advances neonatal nursing practice by sharing expertise through publications and presentations at professional meetings and conferences.
- Leads selected projects and programs with an emphasis on quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Fosters collaborative relationships with the UW Medical Center CNS team and colleagues across other hospitals and healthcare agencies.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and leadership to assess nursing practice and identify educational and professional development needs.
- Maintains applicable certifications and participates in continuing education activities.
- Promotes the professional growth and advancement of the nursing team.
