About The Position
In collaboration with the health care team, the Clinical Nurse Specialist provides expert family-centered clinical care and clinical consultation within her/his area of expertise to improve outcomes and to promote integrated health care that is safe, equitable, timely, effective, and efficient.

Responsibilities
- Manages the care of complex and/or vulnerable populations through expert direct care, care coordination, and collaboration with patients and families and other members of the health care team.
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by being knowledgeable about evidence and best practices for safety, speaking up about safety issues, and changing practice to enhance safety.
- Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms and communicates these with appropriate leadership.
- Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.
- Supports other members of the health care team, including nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals through collaborative clinical practice, education, research/evidence-based practice, and consultation.
- Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, students and other health care providers.
- Facilitates change and innovation for patients/populations within the department, the health care system, and the community.
- Analyzes and utilizes data, including patient satisfaction data, QI data, other data relevant to specialty populations, and incident report/safety net data to identify opportunities for improvement and to develop a plan of action to improve outcomes.
- Participates in scholarly activities including research and evidence-based practice.
- Participates in personal professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking appropriate educational offerings.
- Presents research and evidence-based practice findings to unit staff.
- Participates in regional/national programs relevant to specialty practice.
- Develops departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and standards based on the best available evidence.
- Demonstrates health care informatics competencies to manage patient care, outcome data, and current and emerging health care technology, which includes: Basic computer competency, Information literacy, and Information management skills.
