About The Position

Join our team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and bring your pediatric procedural expertise! This unique opportunity is a 100% FTE position scheduled to typically work Monday through Friday, day shift hours, however some off hours or weekends may be required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department. You will primarily work at American Family Children’s Hospital located in Madison, WI. We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to serve as a clinical expert within the Diagnostic & Therapy Center (DTC) at American Family Children’s Hospital, supporting specialized pediatric areas including infusion therapy, procedural sedation, and pre/post procedural care. Advance nursing practice and improve patient outcomes through evidence-based practice, quality improvement initiatives, staff mentorship, and implementation of innovative care delivery models. Support nurses caring for pediatric patients receiving chemotherapy, research infusions, injections, procedural sedation, MRI/anesthesia recovery, cardiac cath recovery, and outpatient specialty procedures. Collaborate with interdisciplinary leaders, child life specialists, and nursing teams to identify gaps in care delivery and develop strategies that enhance safety, patient experience, and clinical outcomes. Help guide practice and education within a highly specialized pediatric environment where nurses develop expertise across multiple procedural and therapeutic care settings.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or doctoral degree in Nursing Required
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Wisconsin or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire Required
  • Basic Life Support CPR/BLS certification Upon Hire Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months Required

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of pediatric procedural or ICU level experience is highly preferred.
  • Master's Degree or doctoral degree (DNP or PhD) with CNS role focus Preferred
  • 2 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required
  • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Preferred
  • Previous experience as a clinical nurse specialist Preferred
  • Experience in an academic medical center Preferred
  • CNS certification Preferred
  • Certification in specialty area of practice Preferred
