About The Position

To provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families. This role involves clinical advancement, utilizing systematic planning and timely exchange of information with the multidisciplinary team and patient/family to coordinate care. The nurse will demonstrate the ability to focus on and manage multiple patient needs and aspects of care, actively communicating with the care team to plan patient care and utilizing available resources to problem-solve. Clinical judgment and decision-making are key, using the nursing process and critical thinking to provide individualized, goal-directed patient care consistent with current safety standards. The role includes identifying actual/potential problems, continuously evaluating interventions, and adjusting the plan as needs change. Collaboration with patients, families, and team members is essential for developing comprehensive care plans and prioritizing resource demands. The nurse will also act as a preceptor/teacher for other nurses and make appropriate referrals. They will implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with complex needs, demonstrating accountability for achieving patient outcomes and quickly recognizing patient diagnoses. Documentation must be comprehensive, concise, and reflect a critical thinking approach. Clinical leadership involves delegating and assigning care delivery processes, assessing physician orders, and helping coworkers improve performance. Establishing a therapeutic relationship with patients and families, anticipating problems, and adapting interventions to meet diverse needs are crucial. The nurse will serve as a patient advocate, provide age-appropriate education, and coordinate transfer and discharge planning. Flexibility in teaching and integrating adult learning principles is expected. The role requires independent performance of the nursing process for patients with overt and subtle needs, with the ability to perform safe nursing care in more complex situations with some assistance. Competency in unit skills and some advanced skills is necessary, with potential to teach skills competencies. The nurse will coordinate patient care administered by others, potentially assume responsibility as a relief charge nurse, and assist with preceptorship/professional development. Safe use of common equipment and medications is required, with consultation for unfamiliar items. Recognizing inconsistencies in patient care, managing potential complications, and demonstrating consistent organization and prioritization are important. Participation in quality improvement initiatives, compliance with regulatory standards, and professional behavior are expected. The nurse will utilize various teaching/coaching strategies, promote clinical effectiveness, efficient resource use, and quality care, transferring knowledge and mentoring others. Complex problem-solving and critical thinking skills are essential.

Requirements

Graduate of nursing school.
1 Year clinical experience (RNs with less than 12 months experience will complete the new grad requirements).
California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED
AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Responsibilities

Coordinate transfer and discharge planning and teaching in collaboration with other members of the health care team.
