We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Practitioner to support clinical research and patient-care activities for the National Institute of Mental Health. The role focuses on participant screening, MRI and neuromodulation procedures, clinical assessment, patient safety, research documentation, and study implementation. This is a full-time position located in Bethesda, Maryland. Interpret clinical data, distinguish normal from abnormal findings requiring immediate action, and present findings and analyses to principal investigators for clinical monitoring. Obtain informed consent for MRI procedures and help ensure the integrity of the informed-consent process and protection of human research participants. Recommend appropriate patient referrals, including available NIH resources. Provide comprehensive patient-care services in an outpatient MRI environment involving magnetic fields up to 7 Tesla. The task order also references potential future work at a higher field strength. Recruit and screen healthy volunteers and patients for MRI, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and other imaging procedures. Provide clinical support to adult and pediatric patients, healthy volunteers, and their families throughout participation in imaging studies. Participate in research-group meetings and contribute to decisions concerning study eligibility, diagnoses, and participant and family support. Perform preliminary evaluations through electronic interviews, medical-record reviews, MRI and transcranial magnetic stimulation safety screenings, and consultations with treating professionals and medical staff. Screen participants and obtain social, medical, psychiatric, medication, alcohol-use, and illicit-drug-use histories. Support brain-imaging and neuromodulation procedures by confirming physical status, reviewing current consent forms and safety screens, and verifying required pregnancy-test results. Perform physical examinations, enter medical orders, and review laboratory and other test results with physician input or in collaboration with other staff. Recognize and support the proper medical management of seizures, unstable patients, and other clinical emergencies. Follow established crisis-management protocols and provide appropriate support to participants and families. Document research observations and clinical findings in CRIS, CTDB, or other protocol-required databases. Identify trends and important findings and communicate their potential effect on participant care to the research team. Provide feedback to research teams, assist with problem-solving, and recommend adjustments to interventions based on patient-care findings and needs. Participate in data analysis and management, manuscript preparation, and presentation of study findings. Help design and implement current and future studies and monitor associated clinical and research-support activities. Provide up to 20 hours of MRI scanning support over weekends when required by researchers and patient schedules.
