About The Position

The Genitourinary Center at MD Anderson is a leading treatment center for Genitourinary cancers, known for pioneering research and offering patients access to clinical trials. The center boasts internationally recognized doctors dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of GU cancers. This role involves managing and providing patient care in an assigned area, assessing patient needs, collaborating with healthcare professionals and families, and integrating age-specific and oncology-specific knowledge into care delivery. The nurse will demonstrate clinical competency, manage emergencies, ensure continuity of care through discharge planning and patient education, act as a patient advocate, and organize and lead the patient care team.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).
  • OCN – Oncology Nurse Certification
  • Certification in specialty practice.
  • Two years of clinical nurse experience in an ambulatory/outpatient setting.
  • All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.
  • Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and other services, using clinical skills and visual, aural and analytical abilities.
  • Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
  • Integrates knowledge of age-specific care needs, principles of oncology practice, institutional goals and standards and current professional practice standards in providing care for patients.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
  • Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.
  • Acts as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work of patient care team; trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
