About The Position

The Staff Nurse Leader oversees clinical functions related to the delivery of patient care, the quality of nursing practice and the standards of care for the assigned shift. Coordinates patient care activities by directing staff and functions on the unit, while maintaining clinical nursing practice skills and unit specific expertise. Performs professional nursing duties that incorporate the psychomotor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other to assess, plan, intervene and advocate for the patient on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care. Provides break relief coverage for the shift. Troubleshoots and resolves issues as they arise. Functions as a role model and clinical resource to staff and patients. Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills by a minimum of four points in leadership roles/responsibilities within the last three years that demonstrate continued interest in personal development, the ability to mentor and provide constructive feedback, and the ability to lead a team to produce better outcomes. Demonstration of these skills may include excellence in leading a project, implementing a change project, teaching a skills lab, practice council chair, and relief charge nurse.

Requirements

  • 3 years of recent experience in ICU or Acute Care (Inpatient) PACU.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills by a minimum of four points in leadership roles/responsibilities within the last three years, which may be obtained through the following: Leadership of a project team with effective project outcome and implementation; Advanced degree (MSN) with a focus in leadership; Relief PCC; Qualified Preceptor; Leadership of a Practice Council or in a professional organization; House Supervisor; Membership in a professional development program, Quality Councils and/or PI Teams; Skin Prevalence Nurse; Teaching a class/skills lab or acting as a Clinical instructor; and/or success as an EPIC Superuser.
  • Complete understanding of patient classification system & staffing requirements for the patient population
  • All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English

  • Basic Life Support
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Cert Ambul Peri-Anesthetist
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization
