The Clinical Nurse II (CNII) serves as the clinical consultant in patient care in a designated area and is assigned as a charge nurse. The CNII in consultation with the Nurse Coordinator plans, assigns and utilizes personnel effectively. Performs all the functions of the CNI positions and provides direct patient care to a population of patients. He/she identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a variety of patient populations. Directs and acts as a resource to other members of the nursing team. Utilizes the nursing process in rendering care. Must be adept in performing all of the functions associated with the clinical unit, i.e. relief of telemetry monitor tech, equipment and clinical care. Must have documented/demonstrated clinical expertise in the caring for patients on the defined nursing unit, i.e., telemetry, emergency department, and medical surgical. Functions as resource person for new hires and less tenured staff. Promotes compliance and support of policies and procedures and achieves trust in professional collegial relationships. Skill in the use and operation of medical equipment used in providing specific care needs such as, cardiac monitors, telemetry monitors, pulse oximeter, ventilator. Recognizes standards for safety to reduce risk to individuals served.
