About The Position

The Clinical Nurse II – Perioperative role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act for assigned patients in a Perioperative unit. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned. Additionally, the Clinical Nurse II meets the requirements outlined in the Clinical Ladder program respective to his/her department. The Clinical Nurse III demonstrates a commitment to hospital involvement and professional growth by participating in committees, attending related meetings, and presenting education projects and/or supplemental activities.

Requirements

BSN or BSN program started within one year of hire date and degree attained within two years of starting the program (for Magnet designated facilities only).
Successful completion of an ECG course or equivalency (for units with telemetry monitoring).
Experience in cardiac telemetry (Heart Catheterization Lab).
Two years of nursing experience (Heart Catheterization Lab).
At least one year of experience in critical care specialty (Heart Catheterization Lab).
Successful completion of an ECG test (Heart Catheterization Lab).
BSN preferred (HOI-Operating Room, HOI-Perioperative Holding, HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
Experience in orthopedics preferred (HOI-Operating Room, HOI-Perioperative Holding, HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
Successful completion of ECG Test (HOI-Perioperative Holding, HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
One year recent PACU experience in an acute care hospital or critical care unit preferred (HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
One year recent OR experience in an acute care hospital or recent completion of the Hoag Perioperative Training Program required (Operating Room).
Minimum one year nursing experience in a perioperative setting required (Pre-Admission Screening).
One year nursing experience in a perioperative setting in an acute care hospital or an outpatient surgery center (Pre Post Unit).
One year recent PACU experience in an acute care hospital or critical care unit required (Recovery Room/PACU).
Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
Current BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) upon hire.
ACLS (Heart Catheterization Lab).
ACLS (HOI-Perioperative Holding, HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
ACLS and PALS (PALS required within 90 days of hire) (Irvine Recovery Room/PACU and Irvine Pre Post Unit).
ACLS and PALS (PALS required within 90 days of hire) (Recovery Room/PACU).
ACLS (Nurses hired before 10/1/2025 for Pre Post Unit).
ACLS, PALS within 90 days of hire (Nurses hired after 10/1/2025 for Pre Post Unit).

Nice To Haves
