The Hematology Unit delivers specialized, comprehensive care to patients with blood-related cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. The unit also has expertise in caring for patients receiving CAR T-cell therapy and those enrolled in clinical research trials. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the team diagnoses, treats, and manages a wide range of hematologic malignancies. We are seeking dedicated, knowledgeable nurses who demonstrate strong critical-thinking skills, sound clinical judgment, and a compassionate approach to patient care. Excellent communication, thorough documentation, and the ability to incorporate cultural, psychosocial, and spiritual considerations into care planning are essential to success in this role.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required
- Current California RN license
- Minimum of 1-3 years related experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
- Chemotherapy/ Biotherapy Certificate or Chemotherapy/ Immunotherapy Certificate (Must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments for patients with hematologic malignancies, including physical evaluations, medical history reviews, and symptom assessments such as fatigue, bruising, or bleeding.
- Monitor vital signs, laboratory values, and treatment responses to promptly identify changes in condition.
- Safely administer chemotherapy and other systemic therapies in accordance with established protocols.
- Verify accurate dosing, monitor for adverse reactions, and provide supportive interventions to reduce treatment-related complications.
- Assess and manage symptoms related to both disease and treatment, including pain, nausea, anemia, and neutropenia.
- Administer medications, implement comfort measures, and educate patients on self-management strategies to enhance comfort and quality of life.
- Provide clear education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, expected side effects, and symptom management.
- Offer guidance on medication adherence and connect patients with supportive resources such as nutrition services, counseling, and financial assistance.
- Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team to create and carry our individualized care plans.
- Coordinate diagnostic testing, appointments, and specialty consultations to ensure continuity of care across the treatment journey.
