About The Position

The Operating Room Clinical Nurse II (CNII) is a Professional Registered Nurse who is accountable and responsible for the overall management of patient care during the Perioperative process and assigned tour of duty. The CNII also provides safe, effective and individualized care using the nursing process and standards of care determined by the professional association of Perioperative nurses (AORN). Skills required in the performance of duties includes, but is not limited to: leadership, problem solving, delegation, communication, effective working relationships, setting priorities and demonstrated competence in the delivery of patient care. This position may also be required to run the central operating room control desk on occasion and will assist in the orderly progression of the surgical procedures for the assigned shift.

Requirements

Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois is required (Must provide proof at time of interview).
Three (3) years of prior nursing experience is requried.
One (1) year of recent Perioperative Nursing experience is required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required (Must provide proof at time of interview if already obtained).
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required (Must provide proof at time of interview if already obtained).

Nice To Haves

Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
Certification in Perioperative Nursing is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provides direct care to patients during the perioperative process.
Demonstrates clinical competencies (circulating and scrub roles) in provision of patient care consistent with the Perioperative CNI competencies and best practices in Perioperative Nursing care.
Participates in process improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiencies.
Receives report on all patients from off - going nurses, gives report on assigned patients.
Delivers patient care according to established policies and procedures, and standards of care.
Recognizes and responds to priorities in patient care. Adapts to changes in workload.
Evaluates and documents the patient's response to nursing intervention.
Establishes good interpersonal relationships with members of the health care team, patients, families and visitors.
Demonstrates respect for patients' rights to privacy and confidentiality of information.
Communicates all pertinent information concerning patient / family to appropriate health care professionals.
Demonstrates teamwork with other health team members.
Offers assistance and cooperates with staff in the delivery of care.
Functions appropriately in emergency situations.
Assists other professionals by taking appropriate action in life threatening emergencies.
Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, fire plan, and internal / external disasters.
Assists with maintenance of a safe environment.
Reports unsafe environmental conditions to appropriate personnel.
Checks equipment utilized in patient care, and reports malfunctioning of equipment to appropriate personnel.
Maintains and updates Physician Preference Card/pick lists.
Resolves and communicates staff performance issues with Nurse Coordinators to ensure completion of daily surgical case load.
Collaborates with operating room supply and equipment support personnel to facilitate the acquisition of specialty equipment and/or supplies.
Collaborates with Clinical Service Chairperson to identify and obtain service specific items needed to successfully meet clinical outcome goals related to patient care.
Manages daily operations at control desk to facilitate safe patient care and efficient workflow for surgical schedule.
Maintains accurate daily surgical schedule with additions of add-on and emergency cases.
Communicates with all members of the health care team needed in delivery of care for emergency and add-on cases.
Performs other duties as assigned.
