About The Position

The Clinical Nurse II – MedSurg role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to assigned patients on Medical/Surgical units. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned. Additionally, the Clinical Nurse II meets the requirements outlined in the Clinical Ladder program respective to his/her department. The Clinical Nurse II demonstrates a commitment to hospital involvement and professional growth by participating in committees, attending related meetings, and presenting education projects and/or supplemental activities. For Outpatient Treatment Infusion Centers (Oncology and Non-Oncology) Administers Chemotherapy/Biotherapy/Immunotherapy.

Requirements

  • BSN or that a BSN program is started within one year of hire date and BSN degree is attained within two years of starting the BSN program (for Magnet designated facilities only).
  • One year experience in an acute care hospital required.
  • Moderate Sedation experience required (for GI Lab).
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
  • BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
  • ACLS required (for GI Lab).
  • FIM certification (for Acute Rehab).
  • NIHSS and ACLS required upon hire (for Advanced Brain and Spine Unit).
  • ACLS required upon hire (for Cardiac Telemetry).
  • Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines (for Cardiac Telemetry).
  • ACLS required at hire (for Gamma Knife).
  • Gynecology/Urology: Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Provider Card required to administer chemotherapy on hire or within year of hire as designated by manager.
  • Heart Valve Clinic and CVOR: BLS and ACLS required upon hire.
  • Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines (for Heart Valve Clinic and CVOR).
  • ACLS HHC ISC OP Surgery: ACLS and BLS.
  • ACLS upon hire (for Oncology).
  • Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Provider Card required to administer chemotherapy (for Oncology).
  • BLS upon hire (for 1206d Oncology Specialty Clinic).
  • ACLS upon hire (for Pulmonary/Sepsis).
  • For Oncology Infusion, the Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification required (for Outpatient Treatment Centers Infusion).
  • ACLS certification is required (for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray).
  • PALS certification is required within 6 months of hire/transfer to department (for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray).
  • NIHSS certification is required within 30 days of hire/transfer to department (for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray).
  • Completes annual stroke education per organization requirements (for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray).
  • ACLS certification is required (for PICC Services).
  • ACLS certification is required (for HHI Main X-Ray).
  • ACLS Certification is required (for Hoag Imaging Center Newport Beach).
  • ACLS required (for Surgical – 6 West).
  • ACLS required (for Telemetry).
  • ACLS; NIHSS certification required within 365 days of hire as designated by Manager (for Irvine Telemetry).
  • ACLS required within 60 days of hire (for Radiation Oncology).
  • ACLS upon hire, ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course (ONS- Oncology Nursing Society) required within 24 months of hire (for Irvine Medical – Oncology).
  • ACLS upon hire (for Irvine Med Surg – Digestive).

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery telemetry experience preferred, including but not limited to: stroke, seizure, brain tumor/surgery, Parkinson’s, spinal surgery (for Advanced Brain and Spine Unit).
  • Experience in Functional Improvement Measure (FIM) preferred (for Acute Rehab).
  • Previous experience in rehab nursing preferred (for Acute Rehab).
  • Successful completion of Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive or Critical Care course/experience required (for Cardiac Telemetry).
  • Successful completion of ECG test required (for Cardiac Telemetry).
  • Previous telemetry experience preferred including but not limited to PACU, ED, ICU/CCU, GI Lab units (for Gamma Knife).
  • Successful completion of ECG test required (for Gamma Knife).
  • Previous GI nursing experience preferred (for GI Lab).
  • Medical/Surgical, Gyn/Urology experience preferred (for Gyn/Urol).
  • Experience in cardiac telemetry required (for Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI)).
  • BSN preferred (for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI)).
  • Two years’ experience in orthopedic nursing required (for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI)).
  • Successful completion of ECG test required (for Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI)).
  • Successful completion of ECG test required (for Ortho Surgery Center).
  • Two years clinical/management experience preferred (for Ortho Surgery Center).
  • For Non-Oncology Infusion, no experience required (for Outpatient Treatment Centers).
  • Interventional Radiology experience preferred (for HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray).
  • Interventional Radiology and/or vascular access experience preferred (for HHI Main X-Ray).
  • Ultrasound guided vascular access experience is preferred (for PICC Services).
  • Experience in SUB-ICU required (for Surgical – 6 West).
  • Experience on Surgical-6 West unit preferred (for Surgical – 6 West).
  • Previous Telemetry experience preferred (for Telemetry).
