Duke Health Integrated Practice comprises more than 110 primary and specialty outpatient clinics, extending the reach of the Duke Health mission across the state of North Carolina. We are seeking a TRIAGE NURSE to be an integral member of our Gastroenterology healthcare team. The position will manage this patient population via telehealth in order to coordinate care with providers. The Triage Nurse position is based in Durham, NC at a non-clinical office site. This position interacts with patients via telephone and secure messaging vs direct patient contact.

Requirements

  • Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program.
  • Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.
  • You have a minimum of 2 years nursing experience in GI/Endoscopy
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
  • BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing triage, assessment and education to patients via telephone interactions and secure messaging.
  • Plan, provide and document evidence based, professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with provider orders and established GI, DUHS and DHIP policies and procedures, under the supervision of the nurse manager and assigned providers. Patient management includes medication management, prior authorizations, care coordination and scheduling.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of unlicensed care providers (schedulers, Medical Assistants and Staff Assistants)
  • Provider cross coverage to team members to facilitate patient care.
  • Participate in entity level performance improvement activities, work culture events, continuing education and meetings.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
